JioHotstar rolls out its native "Shop the Look" mobile layer, letting viewers buy apparel and trends directly from their screens without pausing the stream.

How many times have you been watching a show, seen an outfit or an accessory, and immediately gone to Google or Instagram trying to hunt it down? JioHotstar is looking to completely eliminate that friction. Capitalizing on its massive 450-million monthly user scale post-merger, the platform has officially launched "Shop the Look"—a native, in-stream contextual shopping feature that lets you buy items directly from your mobile screen without having to pause or leave the app.The rollout kicks off in the high-engagement creator ecosystem, debuting alongside fashion retailer NEWME during MTV Splitsvilla. As an episode plays, a non-intrusive, curated shopping layer populates on the screen. Viewers can browse exact or highly similar styles, choose their sizes, confirm their shipping addresses, and execute a checkout entirely within the JioHotstar application. While fashion is the initial pilot category, the underlying technology has been built as a modular system meant to scale rapidly into beauty, accessories, and groceries. This isn't just about daytime reality television, either. JioHotstar has simultaneously scaled up its commercial capabilities for prime-time live events. Partnering with Swiggy Instamart, the platform has introduced Signal-led Commerce Advertising. Instead of serving generic, one-way commercials during live sporting events like the IPL, the platform analyzes down-funnel consumer purchase intent signals. This ensures that the ads viewers see are hyper-relevant and tied directly to immediate action—such as ordering snacks or match-day essentials that arrive at your doorstep via quick-commerce before the next strategic timeout concludes. The transition marks a tectonic shift from attentive viewing to intent-led interaction. Data from recent TAM AdEx reports indicates that e-commerce and interactive media already command a staggering 35% share of Connected TV (CTV) ad volumes. By allowing viewers to shop seamlessly without breaking the narrative flow of a show or the momentum of a live game, JioHotstar is betting heavily that the future of Indian streaming isn't just about selling subscriptions—it's about owning the digital checkout counter.
