Good non-leather mesh shoe, but Campus must offer more non-leather formal options Finding formal shoes is extremely difficult if you avoid animal leather for religious or ethical reasons, as the formal footwear market is almost entirely dominated by leather. While Campus is primarily known for sports and athletic shoes, I was glad to pick up this fabric mesh pair as an ethical, non-leather alternative that looks clean enough for formal wear. Here is my breakdown of the shoes and feedback for the brand: Ethical, Leather-Free Upper (5/5): The mesh fabric construction aligns completely with ethical and religious choices. It avoids animal leather while maintaining a smart, office-appropriate look. Comfort & Cushioning (3/5): Comfort is just okay. For longer wear, the soles feel a bit firm, and the shoes could benefit greatly from softer cushioning and dedicated arch support, similar to what Campus already offers in its premium running lines. Urgent Need for More Non-Leather Formals (Company Feedback): Campus has an endless catalog of sports shoes, running trainers, and casual sneakers, but almost nothing in the formal category. The market for non-leather formal wear is huge, yet people who do not wear leather have almost no options outside of basic sneakers. Campus should step up and provide a much larger variety of formal designs—crafted from fabric, mesh, canvas, and high-quality synthetics—so customers don’t have to compromise between ethical values and office wear. A solid 4-star buy that does the job for now, but Campus has a major opportunity to lead this underserved space if they introduce more non-leather formal options and soften up the insoles.
